Description
Copy of an original carte de visite portrait of carver Utiku Mohuia of Whanganui. Mohuia appears seated from the knee up, facing forward. He appears wearing a dark-toned jacket with a watch chain, a light-toned waistcoat and striped trousers. Pukiha has short, wavy, dark hair and a large beard and moustache. He sits in an armchair, resting his left arm on the chair and his right hand in his lap. The photograph is included on page 57 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
