Description
Copy of an original carte de visite portrait of Te Kanapu Haerehuka of Te Arawa Ngāti Whakaue, son of rangatira Haerehuka. Te Kanapu appears standing on a patterned studio floor, facing toward his left. Holding a musket across his body, Te Kanapu wears a waist kākahu, similar to a māhiti waero, and headdress made from dog hair. He wears a mere pounamu in the belt of his maro and a pouch around his shoulders. The photograph is included on page 56 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
