Description
Copy of an original portrait of Florence Kelly of the 57th Regiment. Dressed in formal attire and holding the back of a chair, Kelly wears a matching dark-toned jacket and waistcoat, watch chain, bow tie, pocket square, light-toned trousers and a medal on his left breast. His short, dark hair is styled in a side part, and he dons a moustache. There is a small dog on the right side of the image. The studio floor features a tiled pattern and the skirting board is visible. The photograph is included on page 54 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".

Florence Kelly (c1832-1897) married Catherine Adams (nee Griffin) in 1874 after the death of her first husband, John Adams, a Corporal in the 70th Regiment. After Catherine's death, Kelly married Mary Mulvany in 1878.
