"Lt. Col. W. Temple V.C. A.M.S."
Production date
Circa 1900
Description
Copy of an original carte de visite studio portrait of Lieutenant Colonel William Temple, recipient of the Victoria Cross. Temple appears standing from the mid-thigh up, facing toward his left. Dressed in military uniform, Temple wears a jacket with passants, a belt, sash, and two medals on his left breast. The right medal is his Victoria Cross. Temple is balding with light-toned hair and a light-toned, styled moustache. His left hand is resting on an adjacent table, behind which sits his uniform hat. There appears to be a plant in the background, behind the table. There is also a signature on the copied photograph, in the bottom-left corner. The photograph is included on page 54 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
