Copy of an original portrait of Lieutenant Colonel William Hewett, Captain of the 14th Regiment. Hewett appears seated from the lap up, dressed in formal attire. He is sitting at a table, atop which sites an open book. Hewett holds a quill in his left hand, and he rests his left elbow on the arm of the chair. His short hair, beard and moustache are light-toned. The photograph is included on page 53 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
