Copy of an original carte de visite vignette portrait of Doctor James Mouat, recipient of the Victoria Cross. Mouat appears from the chest-up, facing to his left. Dressed in military attire, he wears a double-breasted jacket, with a tag on his left breast. Mouat's hair is short and curly, and he sports a large moustache with long, muttonchop sideburns. The photograph is included on page 52 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
