Description
Copy of an original studio portrait of Doctor William Temple, V.C., an assistant surgeon in the Royal Artillery during the Waikato invasion of the New Zealand wars. Temple appears standing, facing toward his left. He is dressed in formal attire, wearing a matching dark-toned coat and waistcoat, watchchain, pocket square, and light toned trousers. Temple's hair is slicked back and he sports a full beard and moustache. In his right hand he holds an umbrella at his side, and in his left hand he holds a top hat. In the background there is a painted studio feature wall. The photograph is included on page 52 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
