Copy of an original carte de visite portrait of Henry De Burgh Adams, purveyor to the forces N.Z. De Burgh appears standing, facing toward his left. Dressed in military attire, De Burgh Adams wears a double-breasted coat, belt, chain, and two small light-toned patches on his left breast. He has a moustache, full sideburns, and his hair is styled into a side part. De Burgh Adams holds his hat in his right hand and his sword in his left, down at his side. In the background, on the left of the photograph sits a desk. On the right, the studio background wall features a painting of an ornate stone arch opening. The painting also features an outside view from the opening with grass and a building in the distance. Next to the painted scene, directly behind De Burgh Adams, hangs a dark-toned curtain. The photograph is included on page 51 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
