Copy of an original carte de visite vignette portrait of Midshipman Thomas A. Watkins of the H.M.S. Curacoa. Watkins is seated slightly to his right, looking forward. Dressed in formal naval attire, Watkins appears from the mid-torso up in a double-breasted jacket, waistcoat and tie. His hair is styled into a side part. The chair he is seated in is slightly visible in the bottom-right section of the photograph. The photograph is included on page 50 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
