Copy of original carte de visite portrait of Lieutenant Young of the 70th (Surrey) Regiment. Dressed in formal wear, Young wears a patterned tie, checkered trousers and a matching jacket and waistcoat. Sporting a moustache and a mid-part hairstyle, Young holds an umbrella (down) at his left side and leans on a pedestal to his right. His hat sits atop the pedestal, and behind hangs a curtain. Looking to his left, Young is standing on a woven mat. The photograph is included on page 48 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
