Description
Copy of original studio portrait of Lieutenant Henry Bally of the 70th (Surrey) Regiment. Dressed in military uniform, with a sash and chain, Bally dons a large moustache and his hair is parted in the middle. In his left hand he holds a cane and in his right a hat with "70" on the front. Bally stands on a patterned studio floor leaning against a wooden banister rail behind him, with his right leg crossed over his left. On the right of the photograph hangs a curtain and on the left stands a pedestal with a book on top. The photograph is included on page 48 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
