"Lt. B. Leonard 70th. Regt."
Copy of original carte de visite portrait of Lieutenant B. Leonard of the 70th (Surrey) Regiment. Dressed in military uniform and looking to his right, Leonard wears a pillbox cap held on with a chin strap and a coat adorned with toggles. Sporting a moustache, Leonard leans on an elaborate counter, stacked with books, one of which appears under his right arm. His right leg crosses over his left, and his left arm is at his side. An arm chair sits just behind Leonard, to his left. In the background on his right hangs a curtain, behind the counter upon which Leonard leans, running along the top-left edge of the photograph. The photograph is included on page 47 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
