Copy of original studio vignette portrait of Lieutenant Howard of the 70th (Surrey) Regiment. Appearing from the lower chest up and looking forward-right, Howard is dressed in military uniform, with a sash and pocketwatch chain. His hair is parted in the middle and dons a moustache with full sideburns. Howard's partially visible right arm rests across his torso. The photograph is included on page 47 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
