Description
Yashima binocular microscope, model YSD. Grey, binocular microscope with two removable eyepieces. The base has a think white board across it and there is a glass plate stored in the box. the two eye pieces are stored in specially made sections at the rear of the box. There is one black, plastic eye-piece cover that sits on the microscope when the eye pieces are removed. The second one is missing. Is stored in a wooden carry box. There is a hole in the base of the box through which the microscope is bolted into place. The box has a hinged door with a shelf with circular holes inside the door. There is a black carry handle on top, to which is ties a piece of yellow cord with the keys, inside a cover, at the end. The keys open the lock on the front of the door.

Ken Fox was a prolific bug collector throughout the Taranaki region and beyond during the second half of the 1900s. He worked closely with other local collectors such as Peter Peckham. Ken used this microscope to study bugs caught while collecting on the slopes of Mount Taranaki and further a field.
