"Ron's Writing Room - with wallpaper"
Production date
1993
Description
Framed monoprint depicting a stylised view of the interior of author Ronald Hugh Morrieson's house, Hāwera. The viewer looks out from inside Morrieson's writing room, with its famous beige and red abstract patterned wallpaper. A section of the original wallpaper has been collaged onto the print on the left side. The wallapaper peeling off the walls, deep scratches in the dark floorboards, and distorted angles of the doorway and ceiling create a sense of unease.
Morrieson's house was demolished in April 1993 to make room for a fast-food restaurant. Taranaki artist Roger Morris (REMO) gained access to the house prior to demolition and himself, Alby Carter, Dale Copeland, Marianne Muggeridge and Laurence Aberhart spent three weeks drawing and painting scenes inside and from the house.
