Net, Butterfly

Description
Handmade butterfly net. The net is sewn from a fine fabric and hemmed in canvas. A circular section of cane threads through the hem and attaches to a triangular hose connector. The third section of the hose connector is attached to a camera tripod leg which acts as the net handle. The handle has three telescope extension sections. The net has three repairs in it.

Peter Peckham was a prolific bug collector throughout the Taranaki region and beyond during the second half of the 1900s. He worked closely with other local collectors such as Ken Fox. Peter made this butterfly net himself and used it while collecting on the slopes of Mount Taranaki and further a field.
