Description
A stretching board used for collecting and mounting insect specimens. A piece of foam board is mounted onto a backing of thin plywood board. Paper attached to the front of the foam board which has a thin channel running the length of it, down the centre. A moth is pinned to the top of the board. It's abdomen sits in the channel and its wings are spread on either and held flat with strips of tape pinned to the board. A larger pin goes through the moth's abdomen. A scrap of paper with the note "Mid / Feb / '16" recorded on it is pinned below the specimen.

Peter Peckham was a prolific bug collector throughout the Taranaki region and beyond during the second half of the 1900s. He worked closely with other local collectors such as Ken Fox. This stretching board holds a moth caught and recorded by Peter. It is in the process of being set before being added to his larger collection.
