Ornately carved over the entire length predominantly of haehae and pakati. A set of stylised spirals start at the tip (arero) and continue for approximately one third of the distance along the shaft. There are four spirals on the arero and nine on the shaft area. The remaining carving is in a pattern of alternating parrelel bands forming a zigzag appearance. The spirals area is finished to a high standard, the furthest end of the shaft is only partly finished (haehae only with no pakati). One side requires more finishing than the other. The wood is firm and free of insect damage. A large chip of wood is missing from the rau/ blade end on one side of the taiaha
