Cornelian shell cameo set in silver. There are two faces in profile, a woman at the front and a man behind her, carved out of a more orange layer of the shell. The cameo is set into a silver brooch with a pin at the back. Comes with a sheet of typed information about it.

Said to have been given to Helen Wilson by Eugenie de Montijo, Empress consort of the French and wife of Napoleon III. Helen Wilson was the wife of Dr Peter Wilson, who became colonial surgeon in New Zealand, in 1849. Empress Eugenie's grandfather, William Kirkpatrick, was Peter Wilson's uncle.
