Production date
Circa 1890
Description
Cabinet card mounted albumen print of J.B. Paton's general store in Stratford, Taranaki. The building has an A-line roof, is clad in weatherboard, and has a lean-to roof extending over the street with five posts supporting it. The posts have stepped pedestal bases with decoratively shaped panels attached to the top of each post. The words "J.B. Paton" and "General Storekeeper" are painted above the lean-to roof with partially obscured writing with the words "Liverpool" and "London" visible along the base of the building in the centre. Hats can be seen inside the front window on the left.

A young boy and two men are standing in front of the store. From left they are Louis De Launay, J.B. Paton, and W. Huggett.
