Description
Copy negative of original photograph published in the Auckland Weekly News, April 9 1908. The image shows three Māori women standing in a stream in front of a small settlement. Several structures can be seen with wire fencing running along the stream bank (possibly the Hongi Hongi Stream) and a house with a chimney visible in the midground on the right. The top of Paritutu Rock is visible in the background. The caption printed with the image in the newspaper read "A Māori Delicacy in Preparation: Natives drying shark in the sun near the Breakwater at New Plymouth." The original photograph has been attributed to F.C. Winzenberg.
