Copy photograph of original full-length portrait of Major William Aldersey Shortt of the 57th (Middlesex) Regiment. Shortt is wearing military uniform and is standing with his left hand resting on the back of an elaborately carved chair. He holds a cane and gloves in his right hand and his hat in his left hand. Shortt has a moustache and a very full beard. The photograph is included on page 40 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
