Copy photograph of original bust portrait of Drummer Dudley Stagpoole of the 57th (Middlesex) Regiment. Stagpoole was awarded the Victoria Cross for rescuing a wounded comrade at Allan's Hill near poutoko in Taranaki on October 2 1863. He is shown wearing a dark jacket and waistcoat over a light shirt. He has six medals fixed to his waistcoat on his left side. He has a moustache and short sideburns. The photograph is included on page 39 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
