Copy photograph of original group portrait of Mrs Ruth Lloyd with her son William and daughter Maria. Ruth's husband was Captain Thomas William John Lloyd of the 57th Regiment who was killed during an ambush near Te Ahuahu near Oakura in April 1864. The widow and her children are pictured in mourning dress with Mrs Lloyd wearing a widow's cap.
The photograph is included on page 39 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
