Copy photograph of original bust portrait of Lieutenant Colonel Jason Hassard of the 57th (Middlesex) Regiment. Hassard was mortally wounded in battle at Otapawa Pā, South Taranaki, on January 13 1866. Hassard is wearing a military jacket and has a fob watch in his left pocket. He has a moustache and very full beard. The photograph is included on page 39 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
