Description
A Victory Medal. The yellow bronze medal features a standing Victory figure on the obverse. The figure is holding a palm branch in her left facing hand and extending her right facing arm. " THE GREAT / WAR FOR / CIVILISATION / 1914-1919 " is marked on the reverse inside a leaf design. "3/785 W.O.1 J. HOUSTON. N.Z.E.F " is inscribed on the edge. The ribbon is a double rainbow colour with crimson on the edges and red in the centre. It is mounted as part of a medal group of five

Credit line
This medal was awarded to John Houston for his service in the Medical Corps during World War I. The prominent south Taranaki lawyer also served in the New Zealand Temporary Service during World War II. His service medals were donated to Taranaki Museum along with his large collection of other military medals.
