Description
A Victory Medal. The yellow bronze medal features a standing Victory figure on the obverse. The figure is holding a palm branch in her left facing hand and extending her right facing arm. " THE GREAT / WAR FOR / CIVILISATION / 1914-1919 " is marked on the reverse inside a leaf design. "24/1067 RFLM. H. HAMILTON. N.Z.E.F. " is inscribed on the edge. The ribbon is a double rainbow colour with crimson on the edges and red in the centre.

Harold Hamilton, of Manutahi in south Taranaki, embarked with the D Company 2nd Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade on 9 October 1915. In March 1926 he was found shot on his Manutahi farm and a verdict of accidental death was returned. The medal was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of the collection of prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
