A New Zealand Medal. The silver medal features a left facing profile of Queen Victoria on the obverse. "VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F.D" is marked around the edge of the profile. A wreath is featured on the reverse with "NEW ZEALAND VIRTUTIS HONOR" marked around the edge of it. " CORPL JAS. RUSSELL A.C. FORCE " is marked on the edge of the medal. The medal is attached to a blue ribbon with a central red stripe by a straight suspension bar ornamented with fern leaf designs.
Awarded to Corporal James Russell of the No. 3 Division Armed Constabulary. He was killed at the battle of Te Ngutu o Te Manu in 1868.
