Powelliphanta sp. A small like brown greenish snails. Written on the shell in white is "15/3/74 Mt Egmont". The specimen is in a brown box with a hand written label " N.Prickett. Track above Holly Hut (1/2 hr Nth Egmont side of Hut)"

Powelliphanta are large carnivorous land snails. They earthworms which they suck up like spaghetti. They are endemic to New Zealand and many species have restricted populations. They are highly susceptible to habitat loss and predation by introduced pest. Little is known about the species.
