Goodshirt reached the top of the charts in new Zealand in the 2000s with their iconic hit ' Sophie ', but this Auckland based band has Taranaki heritage. Brothers Rodney and Murray Fisher and bandmate Gareth Thomas are all from the New Plymouth suburb of Merrilands, and their roots are reflected in the song ' Merrilands Domain ' on their debut album ' Good '. With the line ' The beach is black the roads are thin, in Merrilands ' the particular landscapes of Taranaki make their way into New Zealand's music culture.
