Cabinet card studio portrait of Dorothy Paradine Sadler (late Sumner; married to James Cuthbert Sumner). She is sitting on a ornate chair and is wearing a full length dress. She is holding a book in both of her hands, and resting it open on her lap.

Dorothy Sadler is the daughter of Robert Stebbing Sadler and Alice Fanny Sadler (nee Ellis). This photograph was taken shortly before the family left England for New Zealand. They arrived in Wellington on 13 October 1889 aboard the 'Ruapehu'. The family then moved to Taranaki.
