This medal was awarded to Edward Cain, who served as a rifleman in World War One. Edward was English and moved to Te Kiri, South Taranaki, where he worked as the storekeeper. He enlisted in 1916 but was discharged in 1917 as being too old for service (he was 40 when he was discharged). When he returned to New Zealand he moved to Havelock North and sold fruit, but clearly made an impression in Te Kiri as the community presented him with a commemorative medal for his service in 1918.
