Description
An oval bowled, white porcelain toilet pan with flower transfer design on the inside of the bowl, outside and around the lip. The words "The Deltus Wash Down Closet" appear on the inside of the bowl, along with the number "RD. No. 274039". The pan is cracked through at one side, and the front portion of the base has been broken off but is now glued on.

This particularly decorative toilet would have brightened up any bathroom! The use of the term "wash-down closet" on the inside of the bowl is an early form of "water-closet". "Water-closet" as a term was coined in the 1870s, suggesting this could be a particularly old example.
