Two military commission documents belonging to George Hoby. The first was issued on 5 August 1879 appointing him as a Lieutenant in the Bell Block Rifle Volunteers, and the second was issued on 14 January 1882 promoting him to a Captain.
On the reverse side of the Lieutenant’s Commission document Hoby has handwritten his last will and testament. The statement, dated 9 July 1883, appoints his wife Frances Harriet Hoby as his sole executrix. It is thought that Hoby carried these documents in his physical possession at all times.
