Star, 1914-15

Description
A 1914-15 Star. The bronze crowned four pointed star also features crossed swords and a wreath of oak leaves with the royal cypher at the foot. " 1914-15 " is embossed on a central scroll. Inscribed "23/88, PTE. J. BURR. N.Z.E.F." The star is attached to a watered red, white and blue striped ribbon by a simple ring.

This medal was awarded to James Burr was the son of Mr and Mrs Herman (Harry) Burr, of Tarata, Inglewood. He served as a rifleman with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade during World War I and died of wounds in France on 16 September 1916.
James' birth name was Alti Rudolph, and his parents Otto Herman Burr and Bertha Noffke were from Germany.
