Ferret

Description
A stuffed ferret (Mustela furo). It is mounted on a piece of sturdy cardboard. The fur is mixed brown with whitish -orange colour. The face is white with a faint brown mask around the eyes. The is a small box attached to the card with a skull of the ferret inside.

The ferret is the domesticated form of the European polecat. It was introduced to NZ in 1880s to control rabbits. By the 1900s they were out of control and preyed heavily on the native fauna. It is now illegal to breed, or keep them as pets and are the target of many eradication programs.
