Credit line
The encidna is an Australian monotreme. This means that it lays eggs which is unique to only a few mammals in Australia and New Guniea. They eat ants and termites though are not related to ant eaters. This specimen is thought to be the short-beaked enchinda species and is the only species known from its genus.
