Description
A 1939-45 Star. The bronze six pointed star has a circular centre which includes the GRI/VI monogram surmounted by a crown. " THE 1939-45 STAR " is embossed around the bottom. The star is accompanied with a ribbon featuring equal stripes of dark blue, red and light blue.

This star was awarded to James Edward Prestidge who was born in MatapÅ« and schooled at Matapu Primary. During World War II he served as a private in the 14th Brigade Defence and Employment platoon, 14th Brigade Medium Machine Coy., 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force and served in the Pacific. James died on 24/07/2007 and is buried in the RSA section of the Eltham cemetery: http://public.stdc.govt.nz/cemeteries/  Record number 22151.
