Species described by Linnaeus 1758.
This species is from Australia often blown over to NZ by the wind. The butterflies have never been known to breed in NZ even though the caterpillars food plant grows here.

We have 2 butterflies in the bush at our Bach at kuratau - they mostly look like male blue moon but are quite small. We first noticed them as they light up the bush like Xmas lights in the early evening - is this common?
