Studio portrait of Albert Chernell Mason (1896-1918) wearing military uniform with a star on each lapel. Mason was the son of Alfred Benge Mason and Ellen Mason (nee Hunter) and was working as a boot repairer in New Plymouth before enlisting as a Private with the 18th Reinforcements, Specialist Machine-Gun Section during the First World War. He died in the Battle of the Somme in France on 27 March 1918.
