Credit line
The shingle-back lizard has more names than any other lizard on the planet, inspired by its unusual appearance! Also known as a pinecone lizard because of its roughly triangular scales, or the stumpy-tailed lizard for fairly obvious reasons, this reptile is common through much of Australia. How this particular specimen made it to New Plymouth is unfortunately unknown.
