Patu Aruhe

Description
A hard and heavy wooden pounder of a common size and shape for this type of taonga. Consisting of a large bulbous head / striking area that tapers to a thin handle and knob. It has the appearance of wear and cracking consistent with being submerged for a long period in a swamp area. The striking end has multiple dents from being worked post discovery and a large knot in the timber on one side. The other side is mostly untouched but has a hole to one side where a part of the knot has come through. The surface appearance has an unusual shine as if it has been polished.
