Description
A 12 inch acetate recording from 1957. The disc is made of aluminium with an acetate covering. The acetate is black with grooves in its surface for recording. Side one has a faded cream label marked ' KIWI DISCS / Speed 33 1/3 / TARANAKI DAILY NEWS / CENTENNIAL : / MASTER COPY . The label on the centre of the record is outlined in green ink on side two, which is uncut. There is one hole in the middle of the record. Only side one has been cut and it contains the Taranaki Daily News centennial broadcast on Radio 2XP, which tells the history of the Daily News in a form similar to a radio play, including reports of the Tangiwai disaster, the goals of the Daily News towards impartiality and accuracy, and other important events reported by the Daily News during its 100 years of existence.

The Taranaki Daily News started its life as the Taranaki News on May 13 1857. It changed its name to the Daily News in 1885 once it began publishing daily. This record was used at the radio station 2XB and was an 18 minute dramatic history of the paper, including a reconstruction of the reporting of the Tangiwai disaster and the sounds of the printing press in action.
