Colour slide transparency showing the scene in Liardet Street, New Plymouth as fire fighters attempt to battle a blaze consuming the Whiteley Memorial Church on the corner of Liardet and Courtenay/Powderham Streets. Firemen can be seen holding hoses. A jet of water is sputing out of a hose being operated by two men. Fire trucks and a large crowd of onlookers are visible in the street to the left. Part of the Central Fire Station building is visible on the right hand side of the photograph.
