Description
Copy photograph of Hori Kingi, or Te Anaua, of Putiki Wharanui Pa near the mouth of the Whanganui River. Te Anaua was baptised on December 25th 1842 and took the name Hori Kingi (George King). He was involved in the South Taranaki campaign in 1866 and died in 1868. Kingi is wearing a cloak or jacket with geometric patterns. He has dark hair and a light beard, moustache and sideburns. The photograph is included on page 37 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
