Copy photograph of Lieutenant Charles John Langlands, 43rd Regiment. Langlands joined the 43rd Regiment in May 1861 and was killed in battle at Gate Pa, Tauranga on 29th April 1864, aged 21 years. He is shown seated with his legs crossed. He is holding a cane and his top hat is sitting on his right knee. Langlands is wearing a dark jacket and trousers and has a thin moustache. The photograph is included on page 33 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
