Copy photograph of Captain Edwin Utterton, 43rd Regiment. Utterton was killed at Gate Pa, Tauranga on 29th April 1864. He is shown sitting in a chair with a curtain hanging to his right. There is a chequerboard pattern on the floor. He is wearing military uniform and has three medals on his left. He has a moustache and very full sideburns. The photograph is included on page 33 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
