"Capt. R. Hamilton, 43rd Reg. Killed Gate Pa."
Copy photograph of Captain R. Hamilton, 43rd Regiment. Hamilton was born in 1835 and was killed by a gunshot wound on 29th April 1864 at Gate Pa, Tauranga. He is standing with a cane in his right hand and his left arm resting on an elaborately carved sideboard with a statue of an angel on it. Hamilton is wearing a dark coat and light trousers. He has a moustache. The photograph is included on page 33 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
