Copy photograph of Colonel Francis Hutchinson Synge, 43rd Regiment. Synge joined the 43rd Regiment on 7th September 1841 and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 1st May 1864. He is shown sitting in a chair with his left arm leaning on the top of the chair arm. He is wearing a dark coat and waistcoat with a pocket watch with light trousers. Synge has a long moustache and full beard. The photograph is included on page 32 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
