Description
Black and white mixed media artwork using sand and primer depicting a woman entering a supermarket. The woman is viewed from the rear and is wearing trousers and a patterned blouse. Angular lines and geometric shapes form the supermarket frontage. The artwork was made by first coating the paper with primer and then covering this with black sand from local Taranaki beaches. While the primer was still wet, lines and shapes were scratched into the sand to create the image. The artwork is part of Carter's "Ladies in the Supermarket" series which was based on his observations of women coming in and out of a supermarket in Hawera in 1992.
